Government Oppression

Global recession has officially embedded itself into the minds of everyone and yet the gaming industry kicks on with increasing annual
profits, I personally thank all those people such as myself who are low on funding and yet still scrape together the sacred cash to purchase
these games. This dedication is what I enjoy about our future proof industry.
Although the gaming sector has officially become an integral part to any human development within our technological age, the beurocrats still define computer games as a social deviant. Normally when they decide to target an audience at least there is some conviction behind their verbal diarrhoea such as "chavs", "drugs, sex and rock n roll"... ok maybe the last one was a bit too much but aren't you sick of the same old bullshit. To be honest the news is the most powerful medium in which it brain washers its viewers to believe there is no hope left for our pitiful, war enraged planet. I mean two things have annoyed me 1) when was the last time there was good news on the TV? And 2) how we're the only bloody human race on this planet and we can't keep our balance books in check. This fact doesn't even bother me however whenever there is an attack on the gaming industry itself, I ask this question, what's the difference between the mediums?! People interacting with one another is what makes us human, gaming allows this event to enfold with the added perk of an escape from the norm and thus allowing us to participate in activities we normally wouldn't get involved with. Now comparing this to scenes of death, murder, politics, greed etc on the news, can we really differentiate from the two?
Now personally all those "hardcore gamers" who play games such as World of Warcraft realistically have issues, I mean who has that much free time and money to blow on a game anyway? The introduction of the Wii clearly demonstrates that games can be enjoyed by a wider-demographic; it isn't just a small niche that the news is berating anymore but now it's those masses that enjoy the entertainment. It just makes me wonder what new direction the abuse towards games will come. If youngsters are being violent and this blame is coming from playing on games and being anti-social then really this is due to the government's lack of control on parents who willingly allow their kids to play 18+ games.... I DID IT, I AM GUILTY, I'm ashamed of myself I was only 8 and after playing Street Fighter I kicked a kid and went on to massacre the masses like in Grand Theft Auto, Oh wait?! No I didn't I went to college got A-Levels and now I am in University doing a respectable course.
I cannot put across my transcending hate for the "higher ups" they use misunderstood STATISTICS to group their research and this may make up their numbers but it doesn't alter the reality that in the real world; statistics mean nothing to the individual. The influence through findings is what really empowers these people and once they can persuade, only a few people, they can start a domino effect where someone or something can hinder the development of such an industry.
What really makes me laugh is when a company such as "Rockstar" creates an almighty unethical game such as the 'Grand Theft Auto' series; where the protagonist but also the antagonist can freely walk round and murder, cheat, steal their way to the organised crime pinnacle. Now don't get me wrong, it isn't the game that makes me laugh but because children get their mittens on it, groups of parents and the media openly criticise the game. Can't you people see that your just providing free advertisement to this game and because your glamorising the fact that its forbidden to these youngsters, like the holy forbidden apple that effectively drove this world to its doom, (if you believe in that) then surely your just baiting the kids to defy orders and rebel the norm to effectively become the essence of cool with their friends. The precautions taken to protect these kids is what defies the point of a child, yes the game details death and cruelty in a harsh way but with socialising taking the absolute most importance within kids these days, then they are just learning as if they were watching the news. Games have the potential to become an educational tool and the sooner the world realises this, the sooner we can aid in the development of such applications to diverse this negative approach of this expanding market and vitally prove those pig headed idiots wrong about the influence of games on youngsters.
